The Journey of Discovering Eden: A new lecture by Ismail Nashif as part of alQaws' Haifa based initiative "Hawamesh" (Margins) – a monthly intellectual space about issues related to sexual and gender diversity in Palestine. The lecture aims to explore the current concept of the Palestinian City and its different spaces - and the place/status of different groups in it - beyond the notion of the "modern city", which is part of the colonial legacy. The liberation from colonialism starts with the liberation from the "modern city" as the Palestinian utopia. (The lecture is in Arabic)

Liberation in Palestine, A Queer Issue - Haneen Maikey

Rabih Alameddine's and Haneen Maikey's keynotes from CLAGS' conference Homonationalism and Pinkwashing at The Graduate Center, CUNY, New York City, April 10-11, 2013.

For more information about the conference, see the conference website: http://www.homonationalism.org.

Rabih Alameddine is a painter and novelist and author of Kool Aids: the Art of War (1998) a novel about an HIV positive gay man written against the backdrop of the Lebanese Civil War. Other fiction include The Perv (1999), I, The Divine (2001), The Hakawati (2008). A Guggenheim Fellow, his books are widely read in English, French and Arabic, especially in his naive Lebanon. Amy Tan called him "a writer of conscience, of self-consciousness, of subconsciouness, of the great big global unconscious. Within his stories are provocative ideas, housed in fractured narratives, splendid images, daring language—and simply great storytelling. What some might call disjointed narratives, I think of as the way our perceptions of time and space actually unfurl themselves: not linearly, but in a revelatory sense." Read more about Rabih Alameddine on his website: http://rabihalameddine.com/

al-Qaseda ashirra (The evil poem)

In this song the phrase “You are yourself and I am myself, I am like you”, it has two meanings, first would be the actual clear one, which is that we are alike, and the second is that “you are yourself and I am gay, and we are alike”, this is because the equivalent word to alike in Arabic also means homosexual.

B7ebbik (I love you)

We put on blush and nail polish
Searching for a meaning
Rules that need to be broken
Lyrics: Shahd Issawi
Composed by: Abu Rabus
Perform by: Riyad Sliman

	Three Poems
Once upon a time, before the age of man, before love and faith
Creatures more grand than demons, with two faces and two genitals, and a body round like a whale
They had no backs, like two lovers with animosity in their dance
With four legs and four arms, fast as arrows
Three were their sexes, male, female and a mixture of the two is called muse (Ilham)
From perfection the earth created them, with no faults or defects
They were content with themselves, in their strength they were proud to the heights they would shout, cursing their gods
Their hearts filled with pride, and they thought themselves superior to the stars of the sky
Till the gods of the earth, sky, sea and desert gathered to decide their fate
Flood, storms and rain was Ishtar’s judgment, Tammuz argued with her, judging fire as the better fate
I have no mercy for them, said the mighty Ashur, I will crush and control them with my hands
Then Ba’al shouted, it would be a loss to kill them, we hope for their worship, and here’s what he did, he brought rain and wind, lighting and ice, splitting their body into two, turning them into two sexes instead of three, one soul turned into two, one body became of two backs
Next came Isis to heal the wounds, made them unite, as a reminder of the disaster that had befallen them
Kisses and sex were not enough, their tries to unite failed
Till the return to perfection became impossible
So the soul shouted to its fellow soul in yearning, and the body to its fellow body in passion and desperation
And so man loved man, and woman loved woman, and in the ecstasy of the same sex’s union, the closest form of perfection was reached

ZumZum

Zumzum is a very cute and sweet child
He says whatever he wants…and wears whatever he wants…earrings and bracelets
His mother laughs about it… his father frowned at him… and the neighbors say "Oh my god"

When he grew up a little and knew more of the world
He played the game of lies, which they call seriousness
Wrong and right… the appropriate and inappropriate… the forbidden and the musts
He worked, walking the path
He changed the way he looks… stopped laughing and stopped being free spirited

What is Queer BDS ?
